Chief Buraimoh was born in Nigeria in 1943. He studied at the workshops conducted by Ulli Beier and Georgina Beier in Osogbo during the 1960s, and has since become one of the best known Nigerian artists. His work combines western media and Yoruba style motifs, and incorporates the beadwork found in traditional Yoruba ceremonial fabric and crowns. Buraimoh represented Nigeria at the First All African Trade Fair in 1972, and participated in the World Festival of Black Arts in 1977. He has taught in schools across the United States, including the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and the University of Bloomington.
